The JBCs Community

Welcome to JBCs --- A LJ community for Jews By Choice To Be (JBC2Bs) and Jews by Choice (JBCs). All JBC2B, JBCs, and those considering conversion are welcome, regardless of their affliation -- whether they be Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist, Renewal, other or none at all. Please note, however, that Messianic Jews or "Jews for Jesus" are NOT welcome here.

This community hopes to provide a place for people who are considering or in the process of converting to Judaism or have already formally converted and are Jews by Choice where they can ask questions in a safe environment, share their hopes, fears and experiences, learn about Judaism in a community of learners, talk about issues of special relevance to JBCs and JBC2Bs.

The maintainers of this community don't claim to be experts on Judaism. Given a living, growing religious tradition thousands of years old, it would be difficult for any one person to claim to be an "expert" on Judaism. However, as a community of learners we believe we can seek, ask questions and learn from each other and from members of the Jewish community who support us, both on and offline.

Some rules and guidelines with many thanks to demonfafa, founder of weirdjews:

- Do not criticize anyone's level of Jewishness, tell them they're not Jewish or call into question the validity of their conversion. Every level of Jewish practice (or lack thereof) is welcome here, but this community is about breaking down the barriers between the major movements of Judaism. We are all Jews By Choice To Be, Jews by Choice and Jews here. If this is not acceptable to you, then this is not the community for you.

JBCS' Moderation Policy:

Given the amount of traffic this community gets, it's not possible for the
moderators to monitor every thread. There are bound to be misunderstandings
which we hope that people can resolve at an individual level.

The general rule of thumb is this:

1) If you feel someone is in violation in the community guidelines, tell them. If
appropriate, cut and paste the above text and bring it to their attention.


2) If they're not being responsive, write the mods, using the link on the user info page. ** Please include a link to the thread for our reference.

3) We'll take a look into it, contact the member and take appropriate action, up to and including banning them from the forum.

- Be open minded, especially about issues which you don't understand or aren't knowledgeable about.

- Personal attacks and flaming of other people will not be tolerated.

- Feel free to ask questions, but be tactful on sensitive issues. Or as demonfafa so eloquently put it: "There are no stupid questions, just stupid ways to ask them." Please read several threads before joining, so you can get a feel for the community.

- No racism or anti-semitism of any kind. You WILL be banned for that.
